Artist Statement:
Anaïs Eriksson (*1999) is a Swedish-Austrian designer and material explorer based in Vienna. Between Visual Storytelling, Object Design, and Conceptual Craft lies her passion. In her work, often the process, a certain technique, or material is essential for the final form and meaning of her pieces.
In her design practice her curiosities lie in merging different analog techniques and digital media to create visual worlds, often with a focus on materiality & texture.
Her ceramic works have often process-driven start points. With her not only taking materials but also drawing inspiration from nature, experimenting and exploring the transformation of raw materials through firing has become a very important part of her artistic practice. Experimenting, Researching and archiving are going hand in hand with her structured minimalist aesthetic and detailed simplicity.
Since 2020, Anaïs studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (AT) in the Department for Design and Narrative Media. During her studies, however, she took a guest semester in the Fashion Department (2022) and lived in Reykjavík (IS) for 7 months during her first Student Exchange at LHI in the Visual Communication Program (2023). Before starting her academic studies, she graduated from a school specializing in audiovisual art and afterward earned a diploma in graphic and communication design at “die Graphische” (AT). Currently, she is exploring her new ways in the ceramic field and is doing her second Student Exchange at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg (SE).
